Chillax At The New Kedai Kopi
Fancy a quiet place to dine with your loved ones, or perhaps a place to chillax with your buddies? The new Kedai Kopi is the place that you should visit. Don’t let the vibrant colors fool you. It looks like a fancy eatery in a shopping mall. Instead, it’s located along a shophouse in a quiet residential estate.
Located at blk 380 Clementi Avenue 5, there is plenty of parking in front as well as behind the eatery. If shopping center parking charges are a concern, you’d be glad to know that Kedai Kopi is nestled amidst an HDB residential estate. So if you are driving, eat with ease without worrying about the hourly parking charge. Better still it’s FREE parking on Sundays!
Bring your kids along! The Yakult Bandung Grenade should pacify them. This hot commodity is only available at Kedai Kopi. The yummy taste of Yakult combined with Bandung flavor, is a hit with small and big kids alike.
If the Yakult Bandung Grenade is not enough, there are also 5 choices of mocktails to choose from. The “bartenders” behind the drinks counter will have your drinks out in no time.
Whilst I was at Kedai Kopi, I felt like eating fishball noodles. So I ordered a bowl of the Mee Pok fishball noodles. Sorry, I was too hungry then so I immediately tucked in when I got my order. When I was halfway through only then I realized, I had forgotten to take a picture of the before consumption…haha.
The serving was of good size and the noodle mix was quite flavorful. The fishballs were also of good size, soft, and juicy. Biting through it was as smooth as butter. In case I ran short of balls, I also ordered the Double Bola which is a mix of 3 fishballs and 3 meatballs. How ball-some is that!
The soup base requires no further explanation. The color itself already reflects the flavor intensity. A bowl of the Double Bola coupled with just plain rice would suffice to fill me up at any time of the day. If you can’t decide whether to have fishballs or meatballs, order the Double Bola. You’d get the best of both worlds. Highly recommended!
The carrot cake is next on my list. It’s one of my favorites. A good snack to munch on whilst watching your favorite TV show. I tried the white carrot cake. It was nice and well-balanced. Carrot cake pieces were also soft. The sambal on the side adds a kick of spiciness to the carrot cake.
And most importantly the spring onion sprinkles enhance the flavor of the carrot cake. No carrot cake should be served without the spring onions. If you are a fan of carrot cake, you might want to give it a try.
Seating
Kedai Kopi has internal and external seating. The external seating is not fixed(at the time of this post) so you may arrange the tables to suit your group. During my visit, there were 2 large round tables on the far left of the external seating to cater to big groups. Seats are on a first come first served basis. So do come early.
Food Variety
There’s a wide variety of food available. If carrot cake and fishball noodles are not on your list, the following food options are also available.
- Western
- Indian Muslim eg. prata and such
- Satay and one more which I can’t seem to recall.
Smoking Area
Smokers I feel you. Sadly Kedai Kopi does not have any designated tables for smokers. But the external seating is surrounded by open space for you to release your tension after a heavy meal. You can just step out anytime for a ciggie. You can go for several rounds if one stick is not enough…haha…
Summary
It was a pleasant visit to Kedai Kopi. The right choice of location which allows patrons :
- To save on parking
- Freedom seating allows room to cater to big groups
- Handicap-friendly as there are no walls or steps surrounding the external seating
- Open space for kids to run about or smokers to puff away
- A fresh drinks menu consisting of mocktails
I would return to try out the rest of the mocktails and food choices available. If you’re in the west, be sure to include Kedai Kopi in your list for stopovers. Highly recommended!
