mwupp-vs-smnu-security-lock-comparison

I’ve done the installation article for both the MWUPP and SMNU security locks. If you’ve missed it, simply click on the brands to view the article. While most of the features are similar, there are some features that really affects the buying decision. Let’s have a look!

Let’s begin by eliminating the similarities first. Both the MWUPP and SMNU security lock has a few similarities that you might want to take note of.

Interchangeable

It is good to know that both MWUPP and SMNU gear parts are interchangeable. This means that if you own a MWUPP smartphone holder, you can also use parts from SMNU in case the origin brand is out of stock. And vice versa. Since it’s interchangeable, the size of the knobs is also almost similar.

Take a look at the image below. The handphone holder arm I’m using is from MWUPP.

Knob To Key Design

Another similarity that can be seen on both security lock is knob to key design. Both have the same design and again interchangeable. Take a look below.

Now that I’ve shared with you the similarities, let’s begin with the difference. It is this minute detail that sometimes helps to determine which security lock works best for you.

Knob Inner Color

The inner color of the knob can be a deterrence for theft. While the MWUPP(in black) security lock is more discreet, the SMNU(in blue) helps to deter experienced smartphone holder thieves. Just a glance and they will know their attempt to steal would be a fail.

Key Design

Another obvious difference that can be seen is the key design. The MWUPP has a hexagonal pattern compared to the SMNU octagonal pattern. Due to the additional 3 edges, the SMNU security lock is slightly heavier than the MWUPP.

Key To Knob Attachment

I’m not sure whether is it a manufacturing defect but somehow there is some difficulty in connecting the SMNU key to its knob. It is slightly tight and requires a little pressure before the key connects to the knob. This does not happen with the MWUPP security lock.

I can’t explain this through images so you would need to go to my video below. I’ve prepared the timecodes in the video description, simply click on the timecode which coincides with the topic “Differences”.

There you have it for the comparison between the MWUPP and SMNU security lock. I highly recommend that you consider carefully the key design and key-to-knob attachment as it may affect your usage of the security lock.

Hope I’ve helped made it easier for you to decide on which security lock to get for yourself.
