I have been doing food deliveries on Grab platform for over 2 years now. This is a result of the transition from UberEats to the Grabfood platform since their buy-over in 2017. During this period, I’ve worked with several riders in different locations as I’m mostly focused on islandwide deliveries. Then in 2020, I was stopped for riding without a valid insurance. Appeals submitted to the authorities through community leaders then began. After about a year of failed attempts, it all ended on 22 April 2021. Read the full story here. Altogether I lost my driving and riding license(which is my only source of income.). Being a sole breadwinner, the verdict was extremely damaging as I had medical bills to pay on top of the utility bills.

Since the verdict, the team of riders that I’ve worked with came out with a fund raiser. Spear headed by Abdul Aziz, they helped to raise funds for a Power Assisted Bicycle(PAB). The fund-raiser was jointly supported by the following riders :

  • Hamid (Bukit Gombak)
  • Shirhan (Bukit Gombak)
  • Din (Bukit Gombak)
  • Aziz (Beauty World)
  • Zul (Beauty World)
  • Izad (Beauty World)

Thanks to these kind souls, I was able to start earning my income again. To be frank, for an individual that is 30 years old and above in Singapore, it is very difficult to get employment. Even if the employee does not require any form of qualification.

Despite the fact, these kind souls have set aside their hard-earned monies to help give me a kickstart to start earning again. Nevertheless, until a recruitment agency OR the company could prove me wrong, deliveries will only be my source of income.

To all these kind souls, thank you so much for your consolidated effort in giving me an opportunity to start earning my income again. It’s really humbling and I hope our brotherhood does not end.
